DI holds Town Hall as part of America Week in Bangladesh
From January 30 - February 1, 2012, DI participated in the annual U.S. Embassy sponsored “America Week” in Bangladesh, a three-day event that highlighted the important ties between the people of the United States and Bangladesh, held this year in Chittagong.
On February 1, 2012, DI held a Town Hall as part of America Week entitled “Strengthening Democracy in Chittagong Area: the Role and Responsibilities of Women and Youth” at the Theatre Institute in Chittagong. U.S. Ambassador Mozena gave the keynote address and remarked that women and youths play an important role in strengthening democracy. He expressed the hope that the coming general election in Bangladesh be free, fair and credible and that all the political parties would reach a consensus on acceptable means for holding such an election.
Other attendees included Chittagong Mayor Monjur Alam, BNP Chittagong City unit President Amir Khashru Mahmood Chowdhury, Jatiya Party Chittagong Convener Solaiman Alam Sheth, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Chittagong city Assistant Joint Secretary AZM Obaidullah.
