The Signing of Electoral Support Organization of Afghanistan (ESOA)'s Charter

On August 20, 2011, DI’s Afghanistan Electoral Reform and Civic Advocacy (AERCA) program facilitated an event to celebrate the inauguration of the newly formed Electoral Support Organization of Afghanistan (ESOA) and the signing of the organization’s charter. Attendees included ESOA’s founding members, members of the Electoral Complaints Commission, the Independent Election Commission, the Free and Fair Elections Foundation of Afghanistan, and representatives from USAID and other donors. ESOA Founding Member, Ms. Roshan Sirran, a former member of Afghanistan’s lower house of parliament, spoke on behalf of the organization and described the reasons civil society leaders decided to establish a new NGO specifically focused on pursuing electoral reform.
