Democracy and Governance Assessment
Using USAID’s new DG Assessment Framework, DI conducted a broad, strategic assessment of democracy and governance opportunities for USAID in Angola. The team found that the primary constraint to democratic development in Angola is the lack of effective political competition and political accountability. They recommended that future programs should focus on increasing access to information, strengthening the electoral process, improving access to justice, strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to demand accountability, and increasing the capacity of formal oversight mechanisms.
