Civic Engagement Program Manager

Kutiyote James is a Development Practitioner and a Teacher with over 12 years of professional experience working with different institutions including USAID funded Democracy and Governance Programs in South Sudan. He has worked for many years Supporting Civic Engagement Programs focusing on strengthening citizens’ participation with government, increasing public awareness of democratic processes, and strengthening civil society to effectively engage with the government to advance peacebuilding and democratic governance. He continues to provide technical assistance to CSO partners by providing capacity building opportunities to empower and advance citizens’ participation in political processes seen as legitimate. Kutiyote joined Democracy International’s System to Uphold the Credibility and Constitutionality of Elections in South Sudan (SUCCESS) as a Civic Engagement Center officer, he progressed to National Civic Engagement Center Manager, and currently the SUCCESS Civic Engagement Program Manager (CEPM).

Before joining, Democracy International, Kutiyote worked for the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) as Senior Program Officer supporting civic engagement initiatives aimed at developing a vibrant community that is enthusiastic about building a Just, Peaceful and Democratic society. Before joining NDI, Kutiyote worked on the South Sudan Teacher Education curriculum development program with support from the USAID Sudan Basic Education Program (SBEP) where he first served as a Coordinator for Teacher Education Curriculum. Kutiyote has taught in several Secondary schools and institutions both in Uganda and South Sudan, His interest lies in empowering communities to realize their potentials in advancing the changes they cherish.

Kutiyote holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University of Juba, A Bachelor’s Degree in Democracy and Development Studies from Uganda Martyrs University, and a Diploma in Education Secondary from Kyambogo University.

Kutiyote speaks English, French, Arabic fluently, and other African languages.
