Project Description

In 2014 Democracy International implemented the Women and Elections - Voter Outreach, Training, and Empowerment (WE-VOTE) program in Afghanistan, funded by the U.S. Department of State, and designed to encourage women’s participation in the April elections and the June presidential runoff. DI worked with local Afghan partners, including religious leaders and civil servants, to educate female voters about the electoral process and improve the atmosphere for gender-sensitive election administration through voter engagement, radio program broadcasting, and civil society capacity-building.
